Friends of Iffley Village Organisation

Friends of Iffley Village (FOIV)

Friends of Iffley Village (FOIV) is the organisation for anyone who lives in Iffley or has an association with the village. The organisation is run by its management committee, which deals with matters arising such as proposed developments, parking, and other local issues. It also organises social events during the year. Although it has no formal role in connection with the City or County Councils, it is usually consulted on local planning and highways decisions. FOIV represents local concerns to the City and County Councils and other statutory bodies and can be contacted about local concerns.

FOIV’s activities are guided by its Constitution and implemented by its elected management Committee led by the Chair. Its purpose as set out in the constitution is the ‘conservation of the essential character of Iffley village and its Conservation Area for the benefit of its residents, businesses and visitors; to monitor and guide plans proposed for the future of the Village, and to foster community spirit’. The committee is an executive body, which ‘shall make and carry out decisions in accordance with the purposes of the organisation… it has the power to… apply funds to carry out the work of the organisation…’

The Committee several times a year. Minutes are posted on the website.

For over 30 years, FOIV has distributed quarterly print newsletters to some 600 local households. This is supplemented by e-newsletters to members for whom FOIV has email addresses; and notices around the village.

It also produces a brief guide for newcomers called ‘Welcome to Iffley’. All newcomers are encouraged to join FOIV, using the application form.
