Highways information
Highways sub-group monitors and responds to travel safety issues, highway infrastructure, and active travel concerns, relevant to Iffley village, the Conservation Area, Iffley lock and riverside. ‘Highways’ is grateful for the additional support available from local experts in active travel, transport and civil engineering. There are also very useful links with neighbouring and stake holder groups with similar interests. Our prime purpose is to promote travel safety for everyone, to make all routes in and through the village and river side safe and enjoyable for residents and visitors alike, including vulnerable groups. Iffley is a well known honeypot for tourists and those seeking leisure activities and our roads and paths are very well used.
Key priorities are:
- Responding to your comments concerning any travel issues in the village and prioritising safety for all pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
- Considering and managing the traffic impacts of any significant development, from planning application, during construction and after completion.
- Considering and managing the impact of any planned road works in the village to maintain user safety.
- Anticipating and subsequently acting on any impact from changes to the Highway Code, revised in 2022, and UK Traffic Law.
- Monitoring and reviewing the local impacts of National and Local Transport and related Travel policies.
Attention is currently focussed on the recent revision of the Iffley Turn junction with Henley Avenue, which has increased risk to all users. A public meeting is being arranged. Other current issues under consideration include the CPZ review, speeding by cars, e-bikes and e-scooters, pavement and illegal parking, all of which imperil our safety and that of our many visitors.
