Hamish Scott

You will no doubt be saddened and shocked to hear of the sudden and unexpected death of Hamish Scott at home in the early hours of Wednesday 7th December. Hamish had not been unwell and, indeed, had been busy making plans for events leading up to Christmas to enjoy together with his wife Julia Smith. I’m sure all our thoughts go out to Julia at this time.
Hamish was a stalwart in the village shop, a regular participator at many community events around the village and someone who was always happy to support causes that meant so much to us all in this community. Everyone we’ve spoken to has come back with the same
comment: a true gentleman.
His long and illustrious career as an international historian has been marked by many published works, the most recent of which is in the very final stages of preparation for publication. As a senior research fellow at Jesus College he will no doubt be much missed by his friends and colleagues in academe, as he is in this community.
A great lover of classical music Hamish was a regular at many of Oxford’s venues, at Longborough opera and at concert halls far and wide. His love and support of great music was a constant and his clear and informed opinion on the artists he heard will be missed by many.
